IACP Training

First Line Supervision October 29-31, 2008 Lancaster, PA

MANHEIM TOWNSHIP POLICE DEPARTMENT IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF CHIEFS OF POLICE WILL COSPONSOR A FIRST LINE SUPERVISION PROGRAM

As societies change, so do their elements, and policing is no exception. Both the workplace and communities reflect increasing diversity and different value systems, officers are empowered to resolve problems, and accountability for action has shifted. As police environments evolve, traditional assumptions regarding supervisory roles are now challenged. Like all change, this is inherently uncertain and stressful but presents a significant opportunity for the responsive, adaptable supervisor.

This course, designed for newly or soon-to-be promoted supervisors, will enhance the supervision skills required to successfully manage today’s organizations.

  • Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
define and explain the principles of effective management and supervision
  • identify and explain the steps in dealing with a problem employee
  • understand the concept of flexibility in management techniques regarding differences among subordinates
  • employ strategies to enhance employee willingness and involvement in the organization
  • understand and apply progressive discipline

Confirm the status of this course with IACP before making non-refundable airline reservations

Time:  8:00 am to 5:00 pm

The final level of the three core traffic collision investigation courses.  Reconstruction contains highly technical subject matter including interpreting evidence from a collision scene, reconstructing collision and using mathematical computations to determine causation factors of a collision.  Officers use diagramming tools, measuring instruments and photographs, as well as elements of algebra, geometry and trigonometry in case determination.

The course includes stage collision situations and diagramming projects to provide practice in determining the speed of a vehicle in a collision, the effects of weight shifting in braking, the effects of anti-skid breaking systems, direction of travel, initial contact points and position of vehicle on the roadway.

Because of the highly technical subject matter, it is mandatory of each applicant to have successfully compleed the On-Scene and Advanced Collision Investigation Training Courses or equivalent training from a recognized training institution.

Academy contact, Dave McIntyre, (724) 935-5566 ext. 228.

(Prerequisite-Advance and Technical Analysis Collision Investigation)

Attention: School Resource/DARE Officers, Campus Officers, and School Administrators

Does your current school safety protocol address these questions?

?         How can a PA system become an OFFENSIVE weapon against a Violent Attack?

?         What inexpensive infrastructure modifications can frustrate the Attacker?

?         What MUST the Active Shooter be able to do in order to SHOOT ACCURATELY?

?         What actions increase the skill level required of the Active Shooter to HURT Staff and Students?

?         What is the best bleeding control device ever devised that is in ABUNDANCE in your building?

IF NOT, WHY NOT?

If your policies and procedures do not answer these questions, then this information is not being provided to the staff and students, and your organization is not as prepared as it could be to survive a REAL event of violence. And also, your organization and perhaps even you personally are not prepared to defend yourselves in the civil action that always follows these events.

These answers, and much more, are part of the A.L.i.C.E. (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) Instructor Course conducted by Response Options, and hosted by the University of Pennsylvania Police Dept., Sept 23-25, 2008. Training will be conducted on the campus of UPenn, Philadelphia PA.

History has shown us that only knowing how to sit in a corner and waiting for Law Enforcement’s arrival and help can be a deadly decision for staff and students. Law Enforcement will get there quickly, but not immediately. Securing-in-Place (LOCKDOWN) should be an available option to those in immediate lethal danger, but it cannot be the only option! One solution cannot address every possible scenario we may face. We must provide our staff and students with options, and the ability, to make a decision based on the event and its location. You will learn strategies that are common sense, just not common knowledge.

Please consider attending the course or sending a representative to UPenn, Sept 23-25, 2008. If you do not agree that the strategies, procedures, and policy modifications shown in this course will improve the safety level of your organization, the tuition fee will be refunded - no questions asked. References are available from many police and school organizations..

Registration fee is $395 which includes: all teaching materials to conduct training back at the local organization (Various age-appropriate Manuals, PowerPoints, and Videos); Airsoft equipment for practical scenarios is provided. Hotel group rates are available.

Registration and more information is available on-line at www.ROSeminars.com or call 877-652-9461
